Arrests in Genesee County can be made by the Office of Genesee County Sheriff, Flint Police, Michigan State Police Flint Post 35, police in Burton, Davison, Fenton, Grand Blanc, and Flushing, the Metro Police Authority, or campus agencies. The agency that made the arrest owns the incident report. The Genesee Corrections Division owns the county booking record after intake.

An arrest history is not one verdict list. It can include the police account, custody intake, fingerprint transaction, and a later court file. The prosecutor decides which charges are filed. A booking charge may change, be dismissed, or never become a criminal complaint. Searchers should match the event date, arresting agency, case number, and court rather than assume that all four records say the same thing.

Looking Up Genesee County Arrests

The best route depends on whether the goal is present custody, the police narrative, a filed court case, or public statewide history. Use the name, date of birth when known and lawful, date, location, incident number, booking number, and case number to connect records. Each custodian answers only its part.

1. Identify the place and arresting agency. Ask that agency for the incident or arrest report rather than sending every request to the Sheriff.

Genesee Arresting Agency Record Routes

Start with the agency that created the report. A county FOIA request cannot produce a city police record that the county never possessed. The same rule separates campus police, state police, and the Metro Police Authority from Sheriff files. Jail and court records then follow county routes after custody and arraignment.

For Sheriff material, Genesee County's NextRequest portal is the online FOIA fallback. A request should be written and sufficiently describe a record the county prepared, owned, used, possessed, or retained. No mandatory form is required. The county generally responds within five business days by granting, denying, granting in part, issuing a fee notice, or taking the statutory extension.

A useful request names the agency or unit, event or case number, date range, location, record type, and exact search terms. Add a mailing address when paper delivery is needed and state whether inspection, electronic copies, pickup, or mail is preferred. Ask for an itemized fee calculation if the county sends an estimate. Sheriff report-copy and certification prices were not verified in an official schedule, so no flat product fee should be assumed. Booking Logs and Recent Arrests

Genesee County's lack of a verified public roster is a researched access result. Do not replace the official gap with a private booking or mugshot site. Current custody should be checked by phone. An identifiable older booking record can be requested through the county. A person who was released may no longer be found through a current-custody inquiry, and absence from that channel proves nothing about an older arrest.

Flint's weekly Crime Summary Comparisons are aggregate offense reports, not a person-level arrest blotter. Flint Coplogic accepts certain no-suspect, non-emergency reports and can produce a case number after review. It is a report-submission system, not a lookup for existing arrests. Genesee Jail, OTIS, and VINE

Three official channels answer different custody questions. The Genesee Corrections Division handles the county jail, Flint City Lockup, tether, work detail, and work release. Arrests Are Not Convictions

An arrest record shows that an agency took a person into custody or documented an arrest event. A conviction requires a guilty plea, no-contest plea, or guilty verdict followed by judgment. A release, dismissed complaint, acquittal, or decision not to file charges does not turn the arrest into a conviction. Read the court's count-by-count disposition.

Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and an intake charge must be checked against the court's final disposition.

Genesee Arrest Bond and Release

After booking, the 67th District Court addresses arraignment and bond. Bonds may be posted at district court from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday with cash or most debit and credit cards. After 3 p.m., jail-held bond is posted at the jail. Call first for the amount and current instructions.

The court sends processed bond information to corrections, but it does not control the exact release time. Intake, holds, classification work, and communication between systems can affect the timeline. A court entry showing a bond event is therefore not the same as a jail confirmation that release has occurred.
